Major Record Labels and many Independent Companies follow trends, Shorty Mae Productions does not.
On May 5, 2005 Cristi Owens and Steve Smith
opened a restaurant in Midland Park Mall in Midland, Texas called Shorty Mae's, borrowing the name from Arley's
Shorty Mae Ranch with his permission. Three years later the two restaurateurs went to work for CEC Entertainment but
kept their DBA and under it Shorty Mae Productions was born in May of 2008.
The new company signed its first band Torn Page on
May 10, 2008 and as of May 2011 has worked exclusively with them. Though not committed contractually to SMP as an author,
Arley has published two of his novels through the company, A Tale of the Mojave and The Cyrus Syndrome.
Sue Smith (Cristi's Aunt and Steve's ex-wife yet still
best friend) is a major component of Shorty Mae Productions, operating as Arley's secretary and proof reader as well
as being a driving force (like Cristi and Steve) of keeping Arley, Joe, and Dan energized, focused, and humbled.
